Mr. George B. Meyers, who for about ten days previous had been the guest of his old friend, Mr. F.E. Tracy, the wholesale grocer, put an end to his existence some time between Sunday at midnight and eight o'clock Monday morning by hanging himself with a piece of the rope of a hammock attached to a bed-post in his sleeping apartment. When discovered the body was still warm. The unfortunate gentleman had been formerly a tea merchant in New York City, but abandoning the business he visited California and other Western States and Territories. While in the West he met with an accident by being thrown from a carriage and thereby sustained injuries that ultimately affected his brain. It is thought also that too close application to business while in New York had a depressing effect upon his mind. Soon after his arrival here, Mr. Tracy communicated to Mr. Meyers' friends in New York the condition in which he was found that gentleman, and this led to an arrangement by which Mr. Meyers was to be sent in care of a mutual friend to that city on the noon train Monday. Mr. Meyers was about 42 years of age and a bachelor. He had no near relatives living, and for this reason his remains were interred in the cemetery here, the funeral taking place at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Financially, he was in good circumstances.
